Problem Discovery
Through early interviews with potential users (college students & early professionals), a common challenge emerged. Many of them expressed struggling with the process of styling their daily outfits, often spending more time than expected in front of their closets. Particularly for special occasions like business-related, dating, or night out, they ask friends for advice or scroll through social media for inspiration. These insights highlight a widespread need for a solution that can streamline and improve the efficiency of the outfit selection process.

Background & Secondary Research
The most stressful part of going out?
This project started with my personal experience. One day, I realized I spent an average of 30-40 minutes choosing my outfit every time I went out. Coming to a decision on what to wear is actually a common problem that many people face. An article highlights a poll conducted by OnePoll on behalf of Trunk Club, a personal styling service, revealing that 65 percent of 2,000 surveyed Americans felt overwhelmed when selecting what outfit to wear to a restaurant. The findings throw light on the time wasted due to the pressure to look stylish when dining out. Validating My Assumptions
Interviewed 9 participants who expressed the struggle of choosing their outfit of the day.
I conducted initial interviews with target users to validate my assumptions and gain deeper insights into their dressing behavior and frustrations. The following are the learning goals for this session:
What is their clothing behavior?
What challenges do they face when choosing their outfit for the day?
What external and internal factors affect their choice of outfit?
Where do they get their styling inspiration?
What aspects of the clothing selection process do they wish to enhance or improve?
Key findings from interviews ✨
Desire for efficiency ⏰
There is a clear preference for solutions that streamline the outfit selection process and save time.
Dependency on external input 🆘
People often seek external assistance, such as asking friends or resorting to social media, especially for special occasions.
Limited outfit exploration 👕
People tend to rely on a familiar daily look, indicating a potential lack of exploration within their existing wardrobe.
Defining Persona
Consolidating key findings into persona.
Gina, the casual
23, college student
Her goal is to streamline and enhance her daily outfit selection process, ensuring that her wardrobe aligns with her diverse activities and preferences. She aims to optimize her time, seeking a balance between casual yet trendy style while avoiding outfit repetition.
Ideation
User Storyboard
A storyboard created from research helps to visualize a potential experience and identify the minimum required functions of an MVP (Minimum Viable Product).
The main focus at this stage is to identify and build effective and impactful features that enhance the product's value. This process allows me to gain insights into user perspectives and generate many design ideas on how to fulfill a certain need.
Persona : Gina
Scenario 1 : Getting outfit suggestions in the morning.
User Journey
Visualizing the process that users go through in order to accomplish a goal.
Approaching a Solution
Scenario 2 : Uploading clothes and managing an interactive closet.
Goal : Getting AI-generated outfit suggestions for a date night.
Transforming a time-consuming process into a simple and enjoyable experience.
Leveraging key findings and persona attributes, I understood that the solution should aim to streamline the outfit selection experience, enhance wardrobe utilization, and ultimately meet the specific needs and preferences outlined by users.
Based on these insights, I decided to implement an algorithm for generating personalized outfit suggestions, integrate a virtual try-on feature with a personalized avatar, and incorporate a virtual closet to assist users in managing and tracking their clothing inventory effectively.

Iteration
A/B Testing
Comparing 3 variants of the same variable to determine which performs better.
I initially came up with 3 different ideas for a start screen that plays a key role when the product is first opened. Each concept emphasizes different content with its own layout design. The main objective of this session is to pinpoint crucial information users encounter upon opening the app for the first time and strategize on optimizing their experience from a design perspective.
Iterations from User Tests
Six rounds of moderated usability tests resulted in a refocused approach to details and hierarchy.
The participants were asked to complete several tasks based on given scenarios, and I observed their movement patterns and ability to accomplish their goals. It was important for me to not only find out how users would approach each task but also to uncover if there were any potential pain points they might encounter. Here are 3 major improvements based on user feedback:
2. Paying closer attention to details in labeling
The lack of titles for each category made it difficult to recognize.
Implemented a tag-based design for each category, highlighting the user's choices and ensuring awareness of their selections.
Updated the text on the bottom call-to-action (CTA) for clearer guidance.
1. New home screen
Replaced the calendar with two CTA buttons for easier access to the main app feature.
Incorporating labels for the main icons in the bottom navigation not only reduced confusion but also enhanced overall usability.
3. A clearer focus on virtual fitting
The additional primary navigation distracted users from using the feature.
Enhanced visual hierarchy and reduced clutter through the use of pointers, promoting faster and more efficient user actions.

Project Wrap-Up
As someone who enjoys dressing up, I had a lot of fun working on this project. Bestyz is my first app in which I integrated augmented reality (AR) into a mobile application. Given that the app revolves around fashion, I aimed to create a vibrant and lively atmosphere, reflecting the emotions I experienced when selecting my outfit each morning.
The name 'Bestyz' was inspired by the experience of asking your friends for help when you don't know what to wear and they always have better options. I wanted this app to be their friend, and you can actually ask other users for help! I hope you enjoy this project as much as I did :)
